A Presentation as Part of Vienna Design Week 2011

Wall clocks are relicts of an earlier period, for nowadays we tell the time using our wristwatches or mobile telephones. Yet wall clocks continue to exert immense fascination. Experimental designers have recently even rediscovered them – as bemusing and fascinating objects which are meant to sharpen our perceptions and our sense of time.

The Wien Museum displays a small selection of international examples in the Clock Museum, ranging from a knitted clock by Norwegian designer Siren Elise Wilhelmsen, and the ambiguous "analogue / digital" video of the young Dutch star Maarten Baas, to the mostly still-standing “Your Clock” from the Viennese studio breadedEscalope and the aesthetic “Manifold Clock” from the Israeli studio Vé.

The Clock Museum houses one of the most important clock collections in Europe, offering the perfect setting for the presentation. Astronomic marvels are on show as much as the famous Viennese “Laterndl [Lantern] Clocks” from the Biedermeier Period or wristwatch classics from the 20th century.
